NAB Cup Round one - Top 30 Ranked by Position

It's been a long two weeks, but the first round of the 2013 NAB Cup has come to an end. Below are the top 30 players per position, ranked by points per quarter. To make them easier to identify, all players which have yet to play an AFL game are highlighted in green.

There aren't too many surprises in the rankings, but it's interesting to take note of the ruckmen, in particular Rowe, Currie and Daw. These three rookie priced players put on an impressive display in the opening round and are being considered by many coaches as potential candidates for a spot on their team as a benched ruckman. It's not yet known whether Rowe will be given much of a chance, but it's safe to assume that either Currie or Daw will feature regularly in North's best 22.

Not many rookies made it into the midfield rankings, but many midrange midfielders did. Player such as Scott Selwood and Brad Ebert featured high up the rankings, two players which nearly averaged 100 last year but have been ignored by coaches so far this season. If we look further down the rankings, Jack Steven and Daniel Rich also make an appearance. Both players increased their average in 2012 by 5 Dream Team points and are potentially looking at a 90-95 average this year.

No rookies defenders made it into the top 30 this week, though it shouldn't much a concern since throughout last year's NAB Cup, only Ellis, Sam Darley and Bugg made it into the top 25 defenders. Considering how the years of those three turned out, it's worth keeping an eye out for which ever rookie can crack intro the rankings. Oh and for some reason, there are nine Essendon players in the top 30 defenders. I'm not sure there's anything to read into there, but it is interesting!
